Readers please note that statements on this page are fair comment based on observation. This content is produced on a matter of public interest. Statements on this page are our honest opinion.

What Is Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone?

Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone is a natural test booster product created by a US-based supplement company named Adaptive Health LLC (trading as Nugenix).

One bottle of Nugenix Ultra costs $89.99, contains 120 capsules and will last users for approximately one month, based on the directions of 4 capsules per day; it is available from the official Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone website, GNC and Amazon.

Like most of the other products in Nugenix’s range, Ultimate Testosterone is designed for those who are looking for help gaining muscle, however they also claim that the product is great for improving ones overall health and virility.

If this product seems suspiciously similar to the brand’s “free testosterone booster”, that’s because it is marketed as a “more powerful” version, however both products use completely different formulas, and in our opinion, comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges – they’re both just totally different.

The product itself is a complex of  herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Nugenix themselves describe Ultimate Testosterone as a formula that helps to boost free testosterone levels, maximize muscle and strength, and increases “androgenic activity”.

Does Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone Work?

A supplement is only as good as its ingredients; after conducting some research into this product, we believe that it could potentially be useful for those looking for support gaining more muscle mass.

With that being said, you should also bare in mind that there’s also research out there stating that the ingredients Nugenix Ultimate contains may not be too useful – essentially what we’re saying is, the science says the effectiveness of the product can vary from person to person.

Let’s unpack this..

The most plentiful ingredient inside Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone is a compound named D-Aspartic Acid – a substance that’s very commonly found inside the formulas of most test boosters on the market, as it has a decent amount of science backing it.

While one study showed that D-Aspartic Acid was ineffective at making a “significant impact” on participants’  testosterone levels during a trial, other studies have shown that it may well help stimulate testosterone production when used in a large enough amount for a sustained period of time. The jury is still out on whether D-Aspartic Acid increases test levels enough for it to have an impact on the user’s ability to gain muscle, however.

The second most potent ingredient is a herbal extract named Fenugreek, another highly common ingredient found in herbal t-booster supplements. An in-depth study into Fenugreek showed that, while it doesn’t help “increase testosterone” directly, it can have a positive impact on those who are regularly weight training, and can potentially aid towards muscle growth (remember, Nugenix state that to experience the positive effects of this product, you must be working out).

Fenugreek extraction had a significant impact on both upper- and lower-body strength and body composition in comparison to placebo in a double blind controlled trial. – Poole et al., 2010

Moving on, Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone also contains a plant extract called “Stinging Nettle”, which contains a little something known as 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran. A study into this substance has shown that it can potentially help increase the levels of free testosterone by binding to your SHBG.

Finally, Nugenix promised their users “increased libido” and higher sex drive levels, and they’ve included two highly popular ingredients that are commonly found within male enhancement pills – Epimedium sagittatum (also known as Horny Goat Weed), and Maca Root.

Epimedium Sagittatum contains a substance known as Icariin, which studies have shown is a mild PDE5 inhibitor – this means that it can help improve erection quality. Maca Root has a study showing that it can “help increase sexual desires” when compared to a placebo.

..analysis showed that Maca has an independent effect on sexual desire at 8 and 12 weeks of treatment – Gonzales GF et al, 2002

The bottom line: if you are planning on using this product for the purposes of muscle gain, you should always remember that you’ll get out what you put in. Firstly, you’re going to need to be using it for at least 2-3 months, so factor that into your monthly budget. Secondly, the vast majority of your gains are going to come from your own hard work in the gym and your diet. Finally, without lifting heavy and consuming enough of the calories and protein that your body requires to heal, you’ll probably not see great results.

Our Final Verdict On Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone

To conclude our Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone review, we liked it for the most part, but you should keep in mind that it has its downsides too.

Starting with the positives, we like how the product contains DAA, an amino acid that can potentially increase free testosterone levels. It also contains herbal extracts that work to improve muscle growth and strength, as well as ingredients that help promote better quality erections and libido.

The downsides are, the “test boosting” impact of the product may not really be that much – as we mentioned earlier, DAA has been shown to marginally increase free testosterone levels, no studies concluded that it increased it high enough for users to experience steroid-like muscle gains.
